SHE LOVES ME

SHORELINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S CURRENTLY RUNNING MUSICAL is a great choice and a well done. This production would make any theatre group proud.
In reading the credits of the cast, production group and orchestra, it occurs to me that I am, as an audience member, the beneficiary of perhaps a million, plus or minus, cumulative hours worth of effort. I am humbled by the years of hope, dedication, practice, and just plain hard work these artists have put into their craft.
SHE LOVES ME, set in 1930s Budapest, follows the romantic development between Amalia and Georg, pen-pals, who unknowingly are also co-workers at the same upscale perfumery. The musical is an adaptation of the play Parfumerie by Hungarian playwright Miklos Laszlo, based on a book by Joe Masteroff. Many of you will recognize the story, as I did, from seeing the 1940 James Stewart-Margaret Sullavan film The Shop around the Corner or the 1949 Judy Garland-Van Johnson musical version In the Good Old Summertime or the more recent 1998 movie featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, You've Got Mail.
If you know of a young person who aspires to be in the theatre, please take them to see a Shoreline Community College theatre production. This production, like all the Shoreline Community College Theatre productions, will be a delight for you and anyone who enjoys musical theatre.
