Never Been There....

Having just driven 10,044 miles through 28 states, I have learned that natives are not always appreciative of the sights in their own back yards.  I’m no exception.  I have lived in the Seattle area for more than 40 years and even a short browse through belvaslist.com reveals how much of my own back yard I’ve never seen.

I started this morning with the Olympic Sculpture Park at the north end of downtown Seattle.  I can’t say that I was overly impressed with the very few sculptures that occupy the park.  I liked the giant typewriter eraser the best.  I certainly hope that the Seattle Art Museum will add more sculpture as they have plenty of room in 9 acres to display anything they can afford to put there.

Perhaps the coolest thing about my trip is that I discovered something else I’d never seen – the Bell Cottages P-Patch garden located at Western and Vine.  The wrought iron fencing and wall of mosaics were delightful and the few flowers still blooming in the garden will mark my memory to return in the spring.

And I will work on the rest of my local list so that I will never have to say, “never been there.”
