The 2012 season opener will dive right in to Rat City’s home season, as all four teams are featured in a double-header that counts for the standings.

 

If you have never been to a roller derby, I’m here to tell you that this is not your mother’s or father’s roller skating. This is skating like you have never seen; heart pounding, blood pressure soaring, yelling, getting red in the face, pushing, shoving, sweating, maybe some swearing and this is just the audience.

“The Rat City Rollergirls is Seattle’s premiere all-female, flat-track roller derby league, composed of about 80 active skaters and many more retired skaters who are still involved. The skaters are divided among four home teams: Derby Liberation Front, Grave Danger, Sockit Wenches, and Throttle Rockets. In addition, a small number of skilled, dedicated skaters are chosen to represent the league on its fifth team, the Rat City Rollergirls All Stars.

With lightning-fast jammers and a swarm of precision blockers, the women of Rat City have taken the national derby scene by storm, placing well in WFTDA-sanctioned tournaments and maintaining a ranking among the nation’s top 10 best derby teams.”
