Shoreline/Lake Forest Park

Sunset on Puget Sound

The City of Shoreline, nestled between Seattle and Everett, offers classic Puget Sound beauty, an abundance of parks (large and small), and an unparalleled choice of ethnic and traditional restaurants.

Lake Forest Park, a bedroom community by design, is located on the north tip of Lake Washington. The Lake Forest Park Town Center is, for all intensive purposes, the downtown area. But the parking is free, and you are only a stone’s throw from a stroll on the Burke-Gilman Trail along the shore of Lake Washington.

Paramount School Park & Skate Park

Paramount School Park

15300 8th Ave NE
Shoreline, WA
Map

If you have kids, little ones or big ones... especially ones with skateboards, Paramount School Park was made for you. There are two baseball fields, a big playground area with slides, monkey bars and swings, a huge grassy area for kids to run and roll on, or maybe fly a kite or model airplane on, and in one corner... a state of the art skateboard park!

There's a running track around the perimiter where mom and dad can walk or trot off a pound or two while the kids are wearing themselves out. There is a covered picnic area and restrooms, near the play area. This is a great place for Birthday parties, saves a lot of wear and tear on the recroom. Lots of parking on the 8th Ave NE side of the park.

Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043

Nile Shrine Golf & Country Club is open to the public. Not many people know this; which equates to short waits, if any, for tee times and the greens fees are, believe it or not, cheaper than Jackson, Jefferson and West Seattle. So, golfers, this presents a window of opportunity—one you would be wise to take advantage of while it lasts. Although the Nile Golf Course isn’t a long course, 5661 yards from the yellow tees but it is said to have some of the fastest greens in the area. So, if you drive for show, you still better know how to putt! Oh, and be sure to check out the specials on the website—the Early Bird special is good all day Monday (accept holidays). Tell Randy, the Pro, Belva sent you.

The dance floor even has a roped-off area so the small ones can practice their own mini-moves. And don’t be surprised to see someone giving out with some poetry or other performance. Hey, everyone needs a friendly place to polish up the act.
Opposite the stage and dance floor is a food court where you can treat yourself to a reasonable meal or just a dessert. The kids will love the giant 8ft x 8ft chess board with chess pieces sized to fit. You are going to love this place, and so will your pocketbook.

Greater Seattle YMCA

Y M C A...

...no, not the song made famous by The Village People in the 1970’s, the other one that is in your community.

As early as 1876, Seattle’s founding Mothers and Fathers began planning a future of community support for Seattle’s youths and their families. As Seattle and the surrounding areas population grew, new YMCA’s were built to fulfill the needs of these communities. This early meeting was the beginning of what would grow into our very own YMCA of Greater Seattle.

As a charitable, non-profit organization serving King and Snohomish Counties you will find a YMCA facility located near your home or work. These YMCA’s offer a wide array of activities and programs for; Families, Adults, Seniors, Youths, Kids and Young Adults, conferences, retreats, camps, health and wellness, recreation, single-family events, pre-school and after school programs are just some the activities and programs for you and your family to choose from.

Dale Turner Family YMCA

A YMCA has been serving the Shoreline area for 50 years or so and in the fall of 2008 opened a new facility, the Dale Turner Family YMCA. This state-of –the-art facility combines a wellness center with it’s traditionally community friendly atmosphere. The new Dale Turner Family YMCA has a 25-yard handicapped-accessible pool, full size gym, indoor cycling studio, group exercise classes, climbing wall, active older adult exercises class and much, much more. You really must check this place out!!!

VOLUNTEER, yes, I said volunteer. Volunteering allows you to give back to your community. You can do something that helps an organization dedicated to building support for our communities, their families, kids, and seniors. The thirteen Greater Seattle YMCA’s have need of your time, energy, and talent.

See you at the “Y”...
